We love a productive day.
Beach? Yes.
Pool? Absolutely.
Gym? Get those steps in.
Then straight to your Brazilian appointment?
Eh… maybe not.
Before you think we’re about to tell you that you need to completely rearrange your life around your waxing appointment, we’re not.
We’d much rather you go to the beach, enjoy the pool, get your workout in, and then come see us than skip those things altogether.
But if your plan is to walk directly from the beach chair, gym, or pool deck onto our waxing table, there are a few things you should know.
Because your skin can tell the difference.
And whether you’re getting a traditional wax or sugaring service, what is sitting on your skin immediately before your appointment can affect how smoothly that service goes.
The common denominator between the gym, the beach, and the pool isn’t actually the activity itself.
It’s what those activities leave behind on your skin.
Think about a typical summer day. You go for a workout, shower, throw on some SPF, head to the pool, swim for a while, sit in the sun, sweat a little, reapply sunscreen, and then realize you have a Brazilian appointment in 30 minutes.
Your skin has been through a lot.
There’s sweat and body heat from your workout. Sunscreen and other products sitting on the surface of your skin. Chlorine from the pool or salt from the ocean. There may be sand, friction from your swimsuit or workout clothes, and just general moisture from spending time in the water.
None of those things are inherently bad.
In fact, please wear your SPF. Please go to the gym. Please enjoy your beach day.
The issue is simply showing up for your waxing or sugaring appointment while all of that is still happening on your skin.
For hair removal, we want to work with skin that is as clean, dry, and product-free as possible. Excess sweat, oils, sunscreen, chlorine, salt water, and other residue can interfere with the service because we’re trying to get the wax or sugar to properly adhere to the hair.
And there’s another piece to consider: your skin itself.
After you’ve been exercising, swimming, or sitting in the sun, your skin may be warmer, more sensitive, or simply a little more irritated than it normally is. Add a swimsuit or workout clothes rubbing against the area, and you’ve created even more potential friction.
That’s why we’d much rather you do these things before your appointment than immediately afterward.
Your skin doesn’t need an elaborate pre-wax ritual. It just needs a little time to get back to its normal, clean, dry state.
If you’re a sugaring girl, don’t think this advice gets you off the hook.
While waxing and sugaring use different products and techniques, both services work best when we’re starting with clean, appropriately prepared skin.
Sweat, SPF, chlorine, salt water, excess oils, and product buildup aren’t exclusive to waxing.
So whether you’re booking a Brazilian wax or sugaring appointment in Richmond, VA, the same basic rule applies:
Come clean, dry, and product-free.
And if you’re not sure whether your skin is ready for your appointment, that’s exactly what your waxer is there for. We can take a look at your skin and help determine what’s best.
Perfect.
That’s exactly what we want.
The key is when you’re showering.
A shower at home before your appointment is very different from jumping in the shower five minutes after you’ve spent two hours sweating at the gym and then rushing through traffic to make your appointment.
Give your body a chance to cool down.
Give your skin a chance to settle.
And give yourself enough time that you’re not walking through our door feeling rushed, overheated, or sticky.
Your appointment should feel like self-care, not the final stop in a chaotic game of how many errands can I fit into one afternoon?
If you’re trying to figure out when to fit your activities around your appointment, here’s our preference:
Gym? Before.
Beach? Before.
Pool? Before.
Long day outside? Before.
But ideally, give yourself some time between the activity and your appointment.
Why?
Because we’d rather you arrive after you’ve had a chance to shower, cool down, and let your skin settle than walk through the door still warm, sweaty, sticky, or covered in SPF.
And after your appointment, your skin deserves a little TLC of its own.
Freshly waxed or sugared skin can be more sensitive, which is why we generally don’t want you immediately jumping into activities that involve a lot of sweat, heat, friction, chlorine, salt water, or sun exposure.
So if you have a big beach day planned, we’d rather you enjoy it before your appointment.
If you have a hard workout planned, get it done before you come in.
And if you know you’re going to spend the entire afternoon sweating in the Virginia heat?
Maybe don’t schedule your Brazilian for five minutes after you leave the pool.
Your skin will thank you.
This deserves its own conversation.
If you’ve spent the day in the sun and your skin is sunburned, peeling, irritated, or unusually sensitive, please don’t try to power through your appointment.
Waxing or sugaring over compromised or irritated skin may cause additional irritation and may not be appropriate depending on the condition of your skin.
Your skin comes first.
If you’re unsure whether your skin is ready for your appointment, reach out to your waxer before you arrive. We’d much rather help you reschedule than put your skin through something it’s not ready for..
The goal isn’t to create a bunch of rules around your appointment.
It’s to give your waxer the best possible canvas to work with and give your skin the best chance of having a comfortable experience.
When your skin is clean, dry, calm, and free from excess product, we can focus on what we’re actually there to do: providing a professional hair removal service that leaves you feeling smooth, confident, and taken care of.
And that applies whether you’re getting waxed or sugared.
We aren’t trying to ruin your beach day.
We’re not asking you to stop going to the gym.
And we absolutely don’t want you skipping your SPF.
We just want you to remember that your skin is part of the service, too.
So go to the gym.
Go to the pool.
Spend the day at the beach.
Wear the sunscreen.
Live your life.
Just give yourself a little time between those activities and your waxing or sugaring appointment.
Think:
Activity → shower → cool down → appointment.
The goal isn’t simply to remove the hair.
It’s to give you the best, most comfortable service we can.
And sometimes that starts before you even walk through our doors.
